My Experience:

I bought the full size tube straight away. I knew that one small tube of scar cream wouldn't suffice for old scars. I was using this on old pimple scars. Not those red or discoloured spots, but those with slight dents on skin. Believe it or not, I have them,which sucks because when light reflects on my face, it doesn't show smooth surface. I hate it and before I resort to laser ( the last option), I'd give this cream a try. I am sure a lot of you wanted to know how this scar cream fares.

I think I've been using this for a year. I got this last year during my internship in Simgapore. It cost me RM 70+ for a full size. You can get a smaller tube for about RM 35 but I doubt that you can see result within a short period.

And I still have this much...

Because all I need is very little ( maybe just a pea size), my scar cream could survive one year and still living. I am still using this despite having so many scar creams( that do not work, damn it!).

Texture-wise, it is a translucent,almost jelly-like gel. One thing that irks me off is that the dried gel peels off when I rubbed my face with other products. Yes, I used the scar gel underneath my makeup and imagine my horror when I saw my perfectly made-up face peeled off under my nose! It peeled off into somewhat like what you would see on exfoliating gel like Curel. Therefore,I pronounce this product anti-makeup and very makeup-unfriendly. This goes to anything with pigments and shades like tinted moisturiser, BB cream and powder.

At last, I had to use to scar gel only at night. I know that the direction tells users to use the gel day and night but I simply cannot use this gel with my BB cream.

You really have to be patient with this product if your scars are old. When I say old, it means that the injuries done were a few years back. I get to see improvements on fresh scars,meaning that the scars are still red and just healed. My fresh scars consisted of pimple scars, mosquito bites and scratches. They healed within one week with the consistent use of Mederma scar gel.

I like the fact that this gel can be used all over face and it does not irritate sensitive skin. For face full of pimples, I suggest you to apply very sparingly over the scars. Do not apply onto pimples and expect no scar would appear after the pimples subside. Don't get this wrong , the product doesn't aggravate acne condition. It's just a waste of product to apply on pimples when you know that the pimples would eventually burst and resulted in scars. This applies to inflamed skin. Apply when skin is in process of healing.

What is the result of my experiment?

I won the battle! But not entirely. I still have dents on my face but very, very light and minor ( that you can ignore). Overall, I am really pleased with the result. You request for the 'before' and 'after' photos? I wanted to put them but find the comparison very insignificant and negligible. Like I mentioned earlier, my scars are unnoticeable so the 'before' and 'after' photos look almost the same unless you see me in real person. My best friend used Mederma on her chicken pox scars which are raised and dented scars. The result on her was remarkable and it was almost like she has never had chicken pox before. I saw her face from 'nothing' to 'many things' and now back to 'nothing'! Amazing, right?

For BCG scars, you need to use the gel for a few years to actually see minor improvement. I thank God that my BCG scar is not hideous. For this scar gel, it actually works faster on dented scars ( ice picks, pockmarks, cuts and surgical scars) than on raised scars ( keloid scars ). And patience is the key to success. I have not tried Hiduroid but I heard it works well too.( Let's hope that I do not have to try)

It was a pity that this scar gel doesn't blend well with makeup or else I would have faster result by using the gel day and night. I'd give it a 4-star. If the formulation is improved into a makeup-friendly one, I 'll another star to the rating.
